Windows tuning with an evidence trail, not blind trust.

ProofTune measures first, explains everything, and changes only your account — every action journaled, every action reversible in one click. No admin rights. No background anything.

Reads diagnose, never modify Per-account scope (HKCU) — no elevation One-click undo restores the exact prior state

What it does

Six tools. Each one bounded.

No “scan & fix everything” magic. Every capability states its limits before it runs — then scroll down and try them live.

Read-only diagnostics

Seven bounded probes measure OS support, CPU, memory, storage, graphics and power state. A failing probe can never suppress the others.

writes nothing · failure-isolated · reason codes

Startup control with real undo

Disable sign-in apps without deleting their entries. Undo restores the exact previous approval stamp — not an approximation.

undo restores byte-exact state

Conservative cleanup

Only your own temp files, thumbnail cache and stale crash reports older than 24 hours. Locked or in-use files are skipped — never forced.

→ scan first, preview before delete

Performance preset

Trims menu delay and UI animations for a snappier desktop. Seven documented settings, one click to apply, one click to restore Windows defaults.

7 keys listed in-app before anything runs

Privacy preset

Advertising ID, tailored experiences and consumer suggestions — off for your account. Every key is policy-backed and restorable.

→ restore re-creates documented defaults

Storage insight, read-only

Finds the largest profile folders with a bounded, cancelable metadata scan — heartbeat progress, hard caps, and your disk untouched afterwards.

cancel anytime · 200k-file hard cap
Live replica

Click around — this is the app.

A faithful in-browser replica of the real ProofTune 0.1.0-preview.1 window. All four pages, the exact strings from the build — and yes, the toggles work.

One bounded result for every independent probe.

Failure-isolated collection. A blocked or timed-out probe cannot suppress other readings. Failure details use stable, non-sensitive reason codes.

Optimization

Every action runs only when you press its button, targets only your Windows account, and is recorded with before/after state.

No optimization action has run in this session.
i
Current user, reversible. Startup enable/disable never deletes sign-in entries; the one-click undo keeps them reversible. Cleanup covers only profile temp/cache content older than 24 hours. Presets come with a one-click Windows-default restore.
Startup apps

Disable keeps the entry so nothing accidentally launches at sign-in; Enable restores it. Undo returns the exact previous approval stamp.

4 sign-in item(s); 1 disabled.
Safe cleanup

User temporary files older than 24 hours, Explorer thumbnail cache, and queued/archived crash reports. Locked or in-use files are skipped, never forced.

Nothing scanned yet.
Visual performance, privacy & storage insight

Performance preset trims menu delay and animations; privacy preset turns off the ad ID and consumer suggestions; restore buttons put back the documented Windows defaults. Storage is read-only.

Support & privacy

Review exactly what leaves the application before choosing a destination.

Allowlist-only export. The exporter cannot accept arbitrary files, logs, registry trees, environment blocks, dumps, command lines, or folders.
Included
Operating-system support evidence
Processor and memory summaries
System-volume capacity
Power and graphics summaries
Restart and update status codes
Capability states and reason codes
Always excluded
User and machine names
Hardware serial numbers
Licenses, secrets, and tokens
Profile, document, and file paths
Registry and file dumps
Process command lines
Local-first safety

Diagnostics run locally in the non-elevated UI process. No bundle is uploaded automatically. Saving only occurs after the generated JSON is displayed for review and you explicitly choose a file destination.

Why different

Not a “PC optimizer”.

The category earned its reputation. ProofTune is built as the counter-example.

Typical “optimizer”ProofTune
Installs a background agent, driver or serviceNo drivers, no services, no scheduled tasks — a plain per-user app
Demands admin rights on every runNever elevates — installs and runs without a single UAC prompt
Finds thousands of scary “errors” and bulk-deletesFixed, disclosed catalog of documented settings; keys shown up front
“Undo” means a system restore point, maybeJournaled before/after state per action — restore is exact, not best-effort
Telemetry, upsells, “Pro” nag screensNo telemetry SDK, no beacon, and nothing to upsell — it’s a preview
Trust model

Rules the build enforces — not promises the marketing makes

Each candidate MSI passes an auditable pipeline — tests, installer database inspection, and static gates — before it’s allowed to exist.

Runs locally, alwaysEvery scan and change happens on your machine. No silent uploads, no background beacon, ever.
Never needs admin rightsInstalls per-user and tunes your account only. If an action would need elevation, that action doesn’t ship.
Every change is journaledBefore/after state for each action is recorded so you can review exactly what happened — and revert it.
No machine-scope editsSystem registry hives, other users’ profiles, security settings and power plans are out of bounds by design.
No destructive cleanupDeletion is confined to stale files in your own profile caches. In-use files are skipped, never forced.
No silent anythingNothing applies on a timer, nothing applies at startup, nothing applies because the app decided so. You click — it runs.
Evidence over vibes

Support bundles you can read before you share

Allowlist-only export. The exporter physically cannot attach arbitrary files, logs or registry dumps — only the fixed, documented fields.
Reviewed before saved. The JSON renders on screen; nothing is written to disk until you explicitly choose a destination.
Never uploaded by the app. A bundle leaves your machine only when you attach it somewhere yourself.

How it works

Measure first. Change nothing silently.

Scan & explain

A read-only capability snapshot tells you what this PC can safely use — with plain reason codes instead of a magic health score.

Choose each action

Nothing runs on its own. Every optimization waits for an explicit click and states exactly what it will touch before it starts.

Review or undo

Every action reports before/after state. Undo restores the exact prior configuration — including the startup entries other tools just delete.

FAQ

Asked before every install

Is this another “registry cleaner”?
No. ProofTune never bulk-scans or “repairs” the registry. It ships a small, fixed catalog of well-documented per-account settings — each one disclosed in the app before it runs, each one reversible. There is no concept of thousands of unknown “issues” being fixed in the dark.
What does it actually change on my PC?
Only values under your own Windows account (HKCU): startup approval stamps you toggle, seven documented UI-performance settings, four privacy settings — plus deletion of stale cache and temp files in your own profile. The complete list is written down in the app and in the scope deep-dive.
Can it break my Windows installation?
The preview operates exclusively in per-user scope, never requests elevation, installs no driver or service, and leaves system files alone. If you dislike a change, one click restores the documented Windows defaults; uninstalling removes everything ProofTune added.
Does it phone home?
No. There is no telemetry, no analytics SDK and no update beacon in the build. Optional support bundles are generated locally as readable JSON, shown to you before saving, and never uploaded automatically.
Why unsigned? SmartScreen warned me.
Signing certificates arrive with the public release. During the Closed Technical Preview the MSI is intentionally unsigned, so Windows may label an unknown publisher — that’s expected. Compare the file’s SHA-256 with the value published for your build; if they differ, don’t install it.
What happens to my changes after the preview?
The upgrade path is exercised deliberately during the preview (stable UpgradeCode) so the signed public release upgrades cleanly. Everything ProofTune changed stays documented and reversible until then.
